Connecting to Music

The past few years, I have been perusing a career in music, especially hip-hop production.  I have produced four mixtapes, and a countless number of beats, but I have to say that only in the past few weeks, I have truly been 100 percent proud with the beats I have been making.  Of course there are exceptions  that have made their way onto my previous collab projects such as Matt Coonz’s mixtape “Wannabe MC” which we released in August of this year.  But prior to that, I do not think that i can say I have consistently been happy with the music I have created.  I think what I learned in the past few weeks is more than I learned in all the years I have been making music.  You have to connect to you music.  Stop thinking about so much music theory that your music sounds forced, but rather play what sounds good, and what really hits your heart when you hear it.  You can not make hot beats by reading an article online saying “you have to do this” or “you gotta do that” because that will just lead to someone elses style of music, not yours.  So from this point on, I am not going to try to make a “Kanye” style beat, or a “Wayne” style beat, but rather a Brian Temme style beat, and I promise for whoever does listen to my music, you will not be disappointed.

On a side note, as for my future music plans, Matt Coonan and I will be releasing our first studio project sometime next year, and will be releasing a single off of that project January 1, 2013.  Once again I love all of you who have kept me inspired and I hope you all come along for this journey, because it is only going to get better.

Yelawolf Talks On “Radioactive” Vs. Sophomore Album “Love Story,” New Mixtape In February | HotNewHipHop

Yelawolf talks on the short-comings of his debut album, “Radioactive,” and how “Love Story” will be an improvement. He also reveals when he plans to release his next mixtape.

Yelawolf’s debut album Radioactive, was well-received by some, and criticized by others, something Yelawolf acknowledges in a recent interview.

Yelawolf

The rapper, who is signed to Eminem, says that some of the records on Radioactive were trial-and-error type tracks. He says that Em and him were cut short creatively on his first LP, but that won’t be the case for his sophomore effort, Love Story.

“The album [Love Story], following Radioactive, is a totally different approach, artistically. Marshall and I were cut short, creatively, in a lot of ways. We never really got a chance to just be left alone in a sense.”

Yelawolf explains how the label intervened on his debut album, and he allowed it, but after seeing it didn’t work out like he wanted, he says it won’t ever happen again. “I said prior, I’ll allow this to happen, but if it doesn’t work, don’t ever ask me to do this again, it’s not gunna happen. So I did, and like I predicated, there were records that didn’t work, there were records that didn’t translate, ’cause my fans weren’t ready to hear it.”

For Love Story, Yela says he plans to record it entirely in Nashville and then he’ll head to Detroit to put the LP together with Eminem alone, and no label figures. “I’m gunna go to Detroit, god willing, sit down with Marshall with my album, and put it together, just him and I.”

The Slumerican added, “I definitely learned a lot with that album, as far as the industry works.”

As a plus, Yelawolf revealed in the last few minutes of his interview that his next mixtape would likely be dropping in February. “Trunk Musik Returns, February 2013 hopefully.”
